    Hi there,

I'm moving house in the next fortnight and needed the carpets in the bedrooms cleaned badly so I headed to HSS and hired their Karcher carpet cleaner and detergent. The dirt is fairly baked in to the carpet in a square in the middle of the bedroom and although it lifted some of the dirt it didn't lift too much..

The main problem is the smell of it since I cleaned it. It stinks really badly of piss and I cannot figure out where it came from. I was told to try another places detergent as it's supposed to be the bees knees but it was no good either. I also tried the vanish powerfoam just last night and scrubbed it all over and while the smell had lifted then I can only guess when it dries properly the awful smell will return. I'm actually dreading heading down to the house after work today.

I'm now stuck with what I think are two options..
    • Replace the carpet with another carpet
    • lift it and put down laminate floor
I've already spent a fortune on the house and don't wanna be out another fortune but what else can I do? Any suggestions?

Shouldn't be hard to get an offcut and I'd just do both rooms at once. They are the same size at 13ft x 9ft. Just have to weigh up the costs involved !

Also for the other carpets we will need a good new vacuum cleaner. They are in good shape but we have only wooden floors in the house we are in now so need to buy a hoover. Say for around £100? My instinct is the Henry unless someone can suggest otherwise?? No stairs to do just hallway and two square rooms basically. Want something with really good suction just that will last !

    Cheers!!:D

Henry vac. is the best. Anything else is a waste of money. Reusable bags online.

Replace carpets. You don't know what's in the old ones.
+ you can get some good ones cheap for bedrooms.

I always found when washing carpets at home that if you cover the carpet with some sheets whilst it is drying, it helps to prevent stains from reappearing and any dust settling on the wet carpet. Also, I think the most important part in washing carpets is rinsing it well and sucking out as much water as possible. I would not worry too much about the smell as it's in all probability caused by over wetting the carpet and will fade as the carpet dries out. When I lived at home my mother had a PINK carpet and I had 2 dogs so I washed it numerous times and found the above steps helped to get a good result. Give it another bash before throwing in the towel!

Henry ain't any use if the karcher failed to shift it.

+1 on replacing carpets. If you're in the dublin area, send me a PM. A good friend of mine is a professional fitter and he'd sort you out. Very reasonable.

Yeah I think we've settled on that although asda have a good sale on some decent looking ones at the minute as well i saw yesterday...hoover and vax uprights which we wouldn't mind as there's no stairs.

As for replacing - yep doing that! carpet bought and going down tomorrow evening, Smell totally gone already! Under the carpet was a really dirty piece of old carpet that prob got too wet during cleaning and released all them smells again. Bought new carpet for two rooms at very, very reasonable price so definitiely worth it in my opinion !

    HENRY is a great vacume.
Most commercial offices and cleaning company's use them due to quality and long life.
I use mine for oil boiler servicing !!
My chimney sweep even has one too.

I even gave my wife one for her birthday.
