I have a Spirofeed split bin in the yard, 7 and 5 tonne split. Due to lower stocking rates and not doing any intensive finishing, it has been idle since Q1 of 2013. No doubt there are some residues in it, but should I clean it out? If so, how would you go about it?

Get a rubber mallett and tap the sides all around. Hope that not a lot is inside. I presume that it was empty since idle. If it is clogged you will have to drop the bottom chute and clean out. When replacing bottom chute you will need the grey sealer contact Spiro feeds directly and they will send you some.

If top bins is blocked it is messier. Firest way is to get a hoist and take off top cover and clean with chimmey rods,. If you have to drop bottom chute you may be able to drop upper chute from inside bottom bin.

Hopefully rubber mallett will resolve any issues. Good idea to tap bin 2-4 time a year when nearly empty with mallett.

I don't know the makeup of a spiro but I've a 12 ton split myself and there's an access panel bolted onto the cone of the bin. Like that mine was sitting up for a while and I decided to power the inside . It was a huge mistake it mustn't have been dry enough cause the last half ton hag to be scraped off the sides of it using different things taped onto long lenghts of steel and fed from the teleported cage .
