After stumbling across a job advertisement today for an arch tech offering €15,000/ annum, which isn't even the minimum wage no matter how 'Junior' the job is (well I suppose at least the employer is offering a job and not a 'internship' I guess thats something).
I asked my self why would any budding young student choosing a study subject for college decide to take up a profession with such low pay in the current climate. Basically if you have aspire to a prosperous financial life, your only option is to emigrate.

    ermmmm

that advert is for a CAD Technician.

    not an Architectural Technician.

    and it speciaifially states:
The role would suit someone 'fresh out of college' or who recently completed a City & Guilds CAD course.

while i agree the salary is crap, its nothing to do with someone who has spent 3 -4 years studying as an Architectural Technologist.

This role will only suit a junior candidate with no working experience.

Not much salary but for very young person. For the right person still with the parents etc it may be just the start needed.
Smart young kids who are quick learners soon justify a wage increase once they prove ther worth.

I started out as a junior cad technician on 12k punts (15k euro) in 2002.

Albeit back in 1995 & before I went on to get my degree Architecture i started on £10,500 as an Arch.Tech. I actually took a paycut from my job in a local supermarket to get that first step on the ladder. Not everyone started on 30-40k
