    Hello

I'm in the market for a car and I'm thinking of going with the Volvo S60 with automatic gearbox. I was going to post an image but it won't let me. I am referring to the new shape S60. I was thinking of buying a nearly new (probably 2013 model).

I like the look of these and based on reviews on the net it would seem that they are very comfortable for motorway driving which is what I want it for (less so on back roads due to hard suspension). My only concern is fuel consumption - I don't want a car that is a pig on juice. I'm also not sure whether to buy a 1.6 or a 2 litre diesel. I don't speed but I don't waste time getting from 0 to 60 and I reckon that a smaller engine would cost me in fuel consumption.

Having said that I know little about cars so I'd appreciate any advice. I'd especially like to hear from anyone who owns an S60.

I don't own an S60, but have a lot of experience of them, and I can't speak highly enough about them.

Seats are very comfortable, ride is very good on the motorway, and on the back roads as well if you do want to have a blast every now and again. I'd probably avoid the R-Design model if you want comfort and go for either SE or SE Lux, depending on budget and availability. Probably easier to find an SE, but make sure it's got leather - isn't standard on the SE, but was only €500 (up until the facelift in July 2013, then €750 ish on facelift models), so most SE's have leather anyway.

Personally, I'd be looking at the 2.0d engine. Badged as either a D3 with 136bhp or D4 with 163ps. Same torque and fuel consumption from both those units, so try to find a D4, but the D3 is almost as quick anyway.

2.0d models get the Geartronic Auto box, which isn't quite as good as the powershift Auto box that the D2 model gets, but it's not a bad Auto box as they go. Relatively smooth and efficient.

D2 is pretty nippy to 60, so might be worth a test drive as it's going to be easier to find an auto in one of them. It's adequate at motorway speeds, but when you try to accelerate from 80km/h upwards, it's then you wish you had the bigger engine.
