Flying Dublin to JFK in two weeks, Whats the story with the in flight meal? Is it free? When I go to pre oder my meal its trying to charge me 18e per meal!

Standard meal is free but there is the option to upgrade which is what you are being charged for. Do nothing, you'll just get the normal meal. Upgrade, get the nicer food.

flew the route a couple of times this year.once from dub, once from snn. Your 'meal' will most likely be a stew or curry. Towards the end of the flight you will prob get something like a cereal bar and juice

To be clearer, the service is, in order

1. Drinks, non alcoholic free, paid beer/wine

2. Meal, as above normally a stew, curry, beef thing, above average compared to BA in my experience. Served with a small water. Vegetarian option also. Meal tray includes a bread roll, some butter/cheese and a biscuit as well as the hot main course

3. Tea/coffee follows meal

4. Light snack of some kind prior to landing

Its kinda on transtlantic but this is how air travel is going. BA and Virgin are the only airlines I have seen not charging for alcohol on transatlantic. If you fly Aer Lingus, US Airways, AA, United etc they all charge for booze these days. I can live without drinking in the air as it makes the jet lag worse.

Just for clarification Delta give free wine and beer but not free spirits. It's kinda off-topic but just in case that info might be useful to anyone, there it is.

It's not free through. You would pay for the alcohol in price of your ticket, if the alcohol was "free" on the plane.
