    Hello all,

Looking for some advice. Considering buying a property in Lucan but wary of the commute to my job off Harcourt St in town Monday to Friday 9-5.30. Does anyone else do similar and if so how long are you looking at sitting on a bus? I have heard there is considerable traffic getting through the village and that before hitting roads with bus lanes. We also have a newborn baby so would need to be dropping them off at a creche and getting back from town to pick them up around half 6 (can probably leave work at 5 to help in this respect).

Any advice appreciated, can take sitting on a bus for 40 odd minutes each way anyway if thats the most we would have to.

Lucan is a big place, which end of it are you talking?

The Dublin Bus Xpresso buses (66X, 67X, 25X), which only operate at peak time, are as quick as it gets.

Looking at a house in esker Manor, it's about a twenty minute walk to the village which is where you would get all the buses?

The Xpresso buses will indeed be a healthy walk from there.

Esker Manor is right on the 25A route and not too far from the terminus, so you're pretty much guaranteed a seat in the mornings. Catching one around the 7.30am mark will have you in the city for before 9. Just get off at the Merrion Row stop at Saint Stephen's Green and walk the 10 minutes around to Harcourt Street. No need to cacth any Xpresso buses in Lucan Village as the 25A also operates along the Chapelizod bypass. Your cash fare for each journey is €3.05 in coins.

Cheers for the info..one question when you say getting the half 7 bus would get me in before 9 does it take over an hour? Or are you factoring in walking time?

If you leave at 07:45 from Esker Manor you should be half way up Harcourt Street by 08:55.

Put your exact locations (home/crèche and work) and relevant dates and times into www.a-b.ie and tweak the settings. Make sure you have selected "take neighbouring stops into account for origin and destination maximum 20 min walk".

During rush hour an hour journey time would be reasonable. You get caught up in school traffic going through Foxborough.

During the middle of the day 40 minutes or so. Re picking baby up at 6.30, I think you'd definitely need to be leaving work at 5. If you can vary your hours any bit it would make a big difference to the commute e.g. start at 8.

The commute isn't too bad as long as you can find something to do e.g. enjoy reading. Because of the bus lanes, the route is also fairly reliable, i.e. you can get the same bus and arrive in generally at the same time.

Esker Manor has some other options to consider, particularly on the way home - e.g. I think the 66x and the 67x drop off on Esker lane behind you, or if you enjoy a walk you could also get any of the buses going to the village.

Could you drop off the baby, park the car and cycle. Only about 8.5 miles so well under an hour and predictable. You can also stay off the N4 if you wanted a quieter route as there are a few alternatives. As the baby gets older you can use a baby seat and not worry about the car.

Possibly could cycle but nowhere to park in the village is there?

If it were me and I had to be in town, I'd try to be close to a rail route, or an express bus route. I'd be trying to keep the commute down to 30~40 mins.

Yep well thats ideally what we are trying to do as well, however its hard to find houses that are within 5/10 mins walk of the village (which the express routes go through).

Parking is currently free at Adamstown Station. The train journey to Heuston is quite short, but ultimately you'll still have to get from Heuston to Harcourt St.
