can foreign students get the dole?

    I'm asking on behalf of a girl I know - she's from south america and has lived here for 1.5 years, always working full time and now she's a student who just got her visa renewed .

    Her place of work just went out of business without notice and now she's left with no money other than maybe a month's worth of savings.

    Is she eligible for the dole? She has paid taxes into this country with every payslip for 18 months so we actually have no idea.

    Her business course just started last week so it'd be a shame for her to have to go home if she doesn't find work in the next couple weeks, which she is of course trying to do.
