2002 Audi TT Clutch

    Hi all,

My wife has a 2002 Audi TT, the non turbo 178BHP model.

This morning she went to start it and the clutch pedal stuck to the floor. I'm assuming this means the clutch is gone. If my assumption is correct what sort of cost for parts and labour (Dublin rates) am I looking at assuming I get it towed (AA rescued) to the garage?

I'm just looking for a ball park estimate so I know if the quote I'm getting is reasonable or not.

    Cheers.

All the 1.8 TT's are turbo.

The clutch pedal on these suffers a problem with the weld snapping, it could be that or it could be indeed the clutch.

Best bring it to a good indy garage for a look, where are you based ? Someone might be able to recommend someone in your area.

Thanks tossy, that's what I'll do. Fingers crossed its just the weld. How long should a clutch normally last in terms of mileage? I know a lot probably depends on driving style etc but is there an average?

Btw, I thought only the 225hp version was turbo charged, I guess I learn something every day.

It will probably need a new clutch pedal and possibly a master cylinder.

Average lifespan for one of those clutches would be 100k miles, anything over that is a bonus.

I have a similar car Audi S3, the first clutch lasted 122k, If you are anywhere near Laois then George Daltons (above) is the place to bring the car to get the work done.

I wish I was near Laois as I have seen George recommend sed severalereal times but I'm in Stillorgan I'm afraid so it's just not practical.

When are you going to open a garage in Sandyford George?? We need you here!

Something similar happened my golf about 2 months ago. A piece of metal on the clutch pedal broke off. It's a tedious job to get it out. I got it welded and another tedious job to put it back in but so far it's working fine. If you unscrew the plastic panel above the pedals you will be able to see if you have a similar problem to me. Hopefully it's only this........

Turns out it is indeed the pedal cage/structure which is broken. The garage I use is going to replace the cage/assembly. I'm sure a weld might also do the job for a lot less but I think I'd rather keep the car 100% straight. I'd never live with myself if I sold it on in a few years and there was an accident as a result of the weld repair failing. I'm probably being stupid and naive but there you go

The new pedals are very cheap so we don't bother with the welding approach either.
