Can somebody let me know how this could happen. I reapplied for fis as my claim expires this week. Last year in sept I was working full time and they assessed my income as 425 per week and awarded me 106 for two kids. I now work in a new job my weekly net is 220 plus 25 maintenance so 245 I would have though my new payment would be around 180 to 190 but it has come back the same as last year at 106 and there still showing my earnings at over 400 euro. I had sent them three recent payslips. Have they made a mistake I can't figure it out.

For the interest of "fairness" they use last year's P60 as a reference. So whatever you were earning last year is how they calculate the amount.

Absolute BS because people's circumstances change alot in 12 months, my own included.

We are losing €16 in FIS this year despite us both earning €60 less p/w than last year. Writing my appeal letter today and see if I can knock some sense into them!!!

I agree so unfair. After I was granted fis for the first time last sept I went jan unpaid maternity leave in se and started a new part time job so since last nov the max I have warned in any one week is 260 (maternity benifit) yet my added able income is apparently425!this is it says on my letter my earnings were based on my gross pay to date not my p60 so it really doesn't make sense

Nah they don't always go by the p60. Send in a letter asking for a review and explain the change in circumstances in detail.

Edit: having just read your second post are you still self employed?

Exact same happened to me. I asked for a review and got the same response. Called and was told to appeal. No way was I able to afford to appeal as it would take about 8 months.

Wrote to every TD in the constituency I live in plus the minister for social protection.
Two weeks later and payment has been increased and backdated saving me having to appeal.

Now I've a bit of a sob story (my hours were reduced because of an aquired disability) so I'm not sure if that helped speed things up.
But my advice is to ask for a review and then lobby your TDs.
My local TD is enda Kenny and he's the one who got it sorted so hopefully your local TDs are able to help you.
