Due and upgrand and walked into Three expecting to get myself the GalaxyS5, currently have S3.
    However seen this new Alpha.
Looks nice, smaller screen (which i prefer) and its looks better than the S5's plastic case.
No SDcard slot is a bummer but i'd get away without it.

Just wondering has anyone picked one up, would you recommend?

I'd wait for the Sony Z3 Compact, no contest. SD card slot, faster processor, much, much better battery.

Don't know much about Sonys lads, only ever had HTC or Samsung.

I can hold off another week or so no problem.

Slattsy, if you are familiar with, and like htc phones, theres a htc event on i think october 8th, where they are expected to announce at least one new phone,if you are prepared to wait the extra few weeks, might be worth considering

The z3 compact also has the longest battery life of any smart phone ever released, a proper two day phone which is a huge plus for me as i always thought battery life is the biggest draw back in smart phones. I'v decided on it for my november upgrade.

Yeah battery would be a big deal to me alright.

Moved to the S4 from iPhone and its a deadly phone. Due an upgrade at Christmas and nothing seems to come close to the Z3. Looks like a great phone

How long before the Z3 is actually available here though?

Popped into Three this morning, the staff have no idea (and heard nothing) when the Z3 is due out.

As much as it looks great, not sure i can hold off 2/3 weeks and my phone is struggling.

I pondered on the Alpha too. My Upgrade was due, last phone was an iPhone 5 - which I hated! - Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad mini, just hated the size of the iP5, too small and slim and hated typing on it!

So I decided I want to try an Android device for a change. Looked up a gazillion youtube comparisons, and tbh, it just depends on who you believe with those. My missus has the Z2, and she's had nothing but trouble with it, overheating and crashing - it's at the phone doc's for the 3rd time already, she only has it a few months. So I'm wary of the Z3. Some of the reviewers of the Z2 pointed out it could get very hot too. Probably the main thing that will be fixed I imagine for the Z3, as there's really not many other differences.

What I did find was that the Alpha has a lower res screen than the S5, or any other top tier Android smart. And since I plan to use it for boredom killing games a lot, I want the screen to be as good as I can get. In the end I went for the HTC M8, in a snazzy blue [Three only I believe?] and I'm very happy with it so far. But the Alpha looks solid, it's apparently faster than the S5 or M8 and many other similar spec phones, but it does have that lower res screen, and that was enough to put me off. If that doesn't bother you, then it looks great.

    good write up!

The screen res was something i read in a review or 2 myself, and it really wouldnt me. The smaller screen appeals to me actually.
Big issue could be that theres no sdcard slot.

you would be hard pressed to fill the 32gb on board memory.

I've a lot of porn lol
Seriously, would i? Im not very techy, i just know i've current apps saved to the SD, so will having all these apps on the phone make it slower?? You know the way they all run in the background like?

Apps don't really take up a lot of space, its mostly if you have HD videos and high mp pics,I think 32 GB would definitely be enough for you tbh

    Interesting cheers man.
Between the Alpha and the Z3c

Would like to get a look at the Sony though. Pity there's no solid info on when it's likely to be available in shops.
