Question about 510

Hey guys I currently have a sigma wireless bike computer. It does what I need it too I have speed and cadence sensors.

However I was thinking of changing to the likes of a garmin 500 or 510 and the main reason being I have a one plus one phone and its 5.5 inches. Its too big for saddle bag if carrying tubes and too big for most my jersey pockets.

So I was looking at garmin because I could leave the brick at home and still have a way to upload my rides to strava and I could just carry my small Nokia work phone for emergencies.

But reading up on 510 it says it syncs with your smart phone when out and about. Is your smart phone only required if you want the live tracking?

Is it easy to upload your ride to strava wirelessly?

Do I need to purchase a separate speed sensor for live speed?

It syncs with ur phone if u switch that feature on. U don't have to use it ( although I find it very handy as ur data appears in garmin connect and strava instantly). Live tracking is nice, but I rarely use it.
U don't need the speed sensor as the unit will record speed using gps, but if u want cadence data, u will need the speed sensor.

Ya the whole reason I'd be going for it is so I don't have to carry a big smart phone.

Go for it so. I have the 810 and i usually sync with my phone when I get home after a spin on the bike. ( handier than starting up the PC) U only need to carry a phone with u if u intend using the live tracking feature.

Why not buy a new phone while ur at it? :)

Is it easy to then sync with Strava?

Yes, you can setup http://www.copymysports.com/ and it'll automatically copy new activites from your garmin connect account to strava. The downside to that is that they target 15 minutes but it can be twice or longer than that.

You can also just download from garmin connect and upload to strava on your phone. So you don't need to mess about with USB cables. I do that sometimes if I don't want to wait for copymysports.

You don't need copymysports. the latest Garmin connect sync's with Strava automatically (once your accounts are linked).
