Elective waiting list

I was hoping someone with some knowledge in this area might be able to give me some advice.

The Consultant feels I should have a mole removed, but not an emergency.

My VHI will cover me to have the procedure done in Vincent's public hospital, as a private patient.

Alternatively, I could choose to have it done in Vincent's private hospital in only a few weeks, and pay full-wack myself (500 euro, or so).

I don't mind waiting 2 or 3 months for the public hospital if it saves me the 500 euro, but would prefer not to be waiting some ridiculous length of time.

Does anyone know how long the waiting times are for an elective procedure like this in Vincent's public hospital? Or is there some way for me to find out?

Any guidance appreciated! It's my first time using health insurance.

No real way to find out other then to ring the secretary of the consultant you saw.

Not sure the private secretary would have that info to hand, best to ring the day case unit

Had the public secretary in mind rather than the private one!
