I have a Lumia 520 windows 8.1. i copied an mp3 from the computer but cannot see it on the phone. It is not in music or in videos.

when i click on music nothing happens. when i go to storage sense/music/manage music tab does not open as manage video does. What is the default music app and where do i get it?

Also, my phone is on my wi fi network. I can see its ip on the router. Should i be able to browse to the computer from the phone

For 8.1, the default music app is Xbox Music.

How did you put the songs onto your phone in the first place?

And no, it's not possible to browse the contents of the phone over the network. You have to connect the phone via USB cable to a PC or Mac and use the Windows Phone software (free).

When you send an MP3 to the phone, it does get saved in the Music folder, which the default music app will see (just tested it myself).

If the MP3 does not have all the proper info (artist, song title, etc) then it'll be harder to find (look for Unknown Artist?) in the Xbox Music app as it *does not* display music by their filenames, only the info inside the file if it exists.
