I have been told I have to pay lots of my wedding in cash. It's abroad so I don't want to travel with money, but it looks like I'll have to travel with 10k+ in my pocket! Does this sound right?

If you have bills totallin over 10k and those vendors want to be paid in cash, then it would appear so.

maybe organise with hotel beforehand to move money to them and withdraw on the day but theyed need to be accomodating.

There is a limit to the amount you can bring through an airport, I think that limit is 10K actually (without declaring it)

What country are you having the wedding in?

Portugal. I have arranged with most vendors to pay by transfer bar a few hair etc, but my planners changed my quote to say meal ( in excess if 8k so 10k including other thing) must be cash. Due to a vat issue but I'm my opinion I got a quote, was told it could be transfer, they can't demand cash or increase price a couple of weeks before

If he has pro forma invoices from the suppliers then declaring it should not be a problem.

Other option is have multiple people bring it.

But for the love of god and his sanity dont plan on opening gifts as a means to pay it.

We got married in Italy and had the same issue, had to bring 8k in cash. I divided it between 4 very trustworthy people. We arrived at the airport got straight into the rental car and went direct to the safe in the venue. Do you have travel / wedding insurance? Maybe check that this cash can be covered on the policy?

Make sure you have the cash somewhere safe on your body separate from your wallet in case of opportunistic thieves.
