Volkswagen Polo 08 low idling and vibrating

    Hi,

I have recently purchased an 08 VW Polo 1.2 L. When idle the rev count goes up and down (from approx 300-900) this corresponds with the car shaking and has cut out a few times. This occurs when stopped at traffic lights. No engine warning light is on. It has been back to the VW garage twice. I have since got new spark plugs, and the throttle body changed, but the problem is not fixed. The rev counter now goes up and down from approx 500 to 900 when idle so at least it is not cutting out, but It does not seem normal to be fluctuating constantly? I am aware the 3 cylinder engine is not as smooth but this is not the issue. It only has 56000k on the clock, and is still under warranty. Should I exchange the car altogether?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!:)

You're in the wrong motoring classic section I'll try get mod to move to motors.

However your three cylinder can suffer from faulty coil packs (3) faulty injectors(3) or even a burnt valve (get compression check done no big cost) it could also be a stretched timing chain causing rev fluctuating.

The coil packs and injectors are easy swaps to diagnose if you can find a mechanic to try out known returnable good parts, instead of buying everything.

Thanks for moving the post. I will try to get the garage to check all of the above as it is still under warranty. Thanks for the advice!:)
