Starter Problems?

Ok my battery is fine , but 3 or 4 times in the last few months when i went to start my car ( honda integra 1.8) i just heard one click noise from the engine and the car goes completely dead . the last few times i jumped the car with a power pack , but today didnt have access to one , my friend over the phone told me to locate the starter ( bottom rad hose close to the engine in my case) and tap it lightly with a screwdriver/hammer and it worked !!

whats the problem here will i be needin a new starter or is it a case of bad grounds/earth wires ?

if you tapped the started an it worked.... then yes you need a new starter

so not much longer left in it then so ? any idea can they be reconditioned or do u have to buy new ?

Could be loose or bad connections either. Sometimes tapping with the hammer improves the conection. Worth checking before.

thanks mate !! yeah my friend said something about an earth or ground going to the gearbox weird thing is it happens at the oddest of times thats what i cant understand

Its probably the brushes in the starter motor are worn, the tapping cure will soon not work for you. You need to get it to an auto electrician to replace the brushes.

aww cool theres an auto electrician next door to me il give him a shout in the morning afaik he only does alternators but hes worth a shot !! cheers john

Sorted : Loose negative battery cable it turned out to be !!!!
