    Hey all,

Hoping someone has experience of this…

I want to buy something online which is more than my credit card limit.

I know I can transfer money into my paypal a/c from my bank.

My cc is associated with my paypal a/c. I'm wondering if I transfer money to my paypal account and try to buy the item; at the payment page, will paypal give me the option to use either my credit card or the funds in my account?

    Thanks!

Why not transfer the funds on to your credit card?

Yes, you can select funding source, if you have money in your paypal account it will default to that

The caveat to this is that the funds in your account must be in the same currency as the item you are buying.

For example, if you loaded (say) 100 Euro onto your paypal account, but try and buy an item in US Dollars, your 100 Euro will not be used - you need to transfer the 100 Euro into US dollars first, via the PayPal website, after loading the funds

Thanks for the reply. The item is in euro thankfully

    Since when?

I have no problems at all paying for item in USD, GBP, JPY etc. from my paypal account balance which is always in Euro.

    Exactly.

Your EUR balance will just be converted to whatever currency you need to make the payment in if it's not EUR

Hmm, I had many transactions where, when paying for an item using PayPal (from a merchant), I wasn't given the option to use my PayPal balance. So many times in fact I rang Paypal and the chap on the phone told me to convert to the other currency first.

Now that I think of it, theres a setting in a PayPal account to accept monies in any currency (i.e. the receiver takes the exchange rate hit) or only in a certain currency (say Euros - the sender takes the currency exchange hit)... I suspect I just might have hit a lot of (mainly US-based) only-one-currency sellers...
