Rude Cashiers

You'd be surprised how many of them there are. More so at filling stations. Often when the cashier is engrossed in conversation with the person in front of me, I get the feeling that I just know that I probabaly won't even be looked. I've often worked on the other side of the counter, and I've always made sure that I said 'hello', 'thanks', etc, no matter how many other things I was concentrating on!

I've often tried saying absolutely nothing to certain cashiers knowing that they won't say anything either, and have had completely silent interactions! Just goes to show. Often you'd feel like correcting them on it, but that's actually quite hard to do while making sure you've the correct change, etc. Because by the time you've waited to make sure they didn't say 'thanks', the interaction is over and it's too late to correct them.

They're probably getting paid a pittance to do a shit job and deal with cunts all day. At least that's how I remember working in retail. I tried not to be rude though.

I often start my shift in a great mood but the more ignorant pigs I serve by the end of my shift I am worn out by them and find it very difficult to crack a smile.

However when I serve someone who is friendly I go the extra mile and those are the customers that make my day and who I rememember.

Working in retail, everything's your fault. No B&H - your fault. Lotto machines temporarily down in the whole area - your fault. Customer asks for Meteor credit, when they actually meant to say Vodafone - your fucking fault.

When you're dealing with unreasonable dicks most of the day, it can be difficult to retain a cheerful demeanour the rest of the time.

Only thing that annoys me about retail staff is them putting the change on the counter when I have my hand out.

I can go into work and be a grumpy f*ck if I want to, I wouldn't hold it against them if they did the same, their attitude is far down the list of things I would consider when deciding where to shop.

Edit: Trying to force their stupid special offers at the till on me also annoys me.

If you want a chat go to your friend's house.

Don't expect someone getting paid f*ck all to hand over goods to morons to be in a cheery mood and overflowing with blistering conversational bon mots all day long just because you go to the trouble of saying 'hello' to them.

One thing I have learned after 19 years in retail is that you can learn to read people like a book, the rude ones are always the ones to be as friendly as possible with as it wrecks their heads that they arent getting to you (even if they are, you just dont show it). I have found 99% of problem/rude customers are middle to elderly aged women. Most of them drive a Toyota Yaris too

Tesco use a special screening process to ensure their till staff are as inefficient and rude as possible.

In Canada, they chat the hind legs off each customer, it's a pain in the tits when you just want to buy your ****e in a hurry and not have to talk about their tenuous link to Ireland for the umpteenth time.

All I'm asking for is a simple hello. After all, if their job is hard, it doesn't mean I'm a punch bag

I don't care if a cashier is all smiles or not. (although it's nice when they're smiling..them being in a bad mood, affects my day or shop, not at all.)

I do absolutely hate, when the cashier is there chatting away to one, and you're waiting to be swerved. More often than not, I'll drop what I have on the shelf and walk out.

There's something very honest about a silent transaction, you can almost feel the loathing.

I don't want a chat, I just don't want to be sneered at like I'm interrupting somebody doing something more important, basic civility is simple and its really not that much effort. Most peoples jobs involves dealing with **** and we all want to get paid more, but being civil isn't something that deserves some sort of bonus.

Hand out for change and just have it slammed or bounced off the counter at me. Kill the heartless bastids with happiness, *big grin* and leave.
