Laptop for video editing

Looking to invest in a new laptop as my current one is too slow and a pain to edit video on.

Looking for suggestions on a good video editing laptop, was thinking possible a Macbook pro, but am open to other ideas. Doesn't have to be top of the range as the videos aren't of professional quality but I do al ot of underwater videography and photography.

I'm looking for similar advice for photo editing.

Advice I've gotten to date has been to look for quad core i7, about 8gb Ram.

So on a budget of 600 to 800, any recommendations?

Would you consider going for a desktop as you would get a lot more power for the same money. A i7 8gb MacBook pro will cost a over a grand easy.

I wouldn't really have room in my house for a desktop. And I like the idea of being able to take a laptop with me.

So, do you think I need to increase my budget?

Have you had at look at pcspecialist? I see it recommended on here quite often. Have not used it myself though.

i use a W540, with upgraded graphics card and Ram, handles most applications very well, video photoshop illustrator cad
