Panasonic DMR-BWT735 intermittent no sound on HDD recordings.

Has anyone else had issues with this unit sometimes not recording sound on the Saorview channels?

I have one about 4 months now and its very frustrating.

yea i have seen this problem a few times in the past on the smaller panasonic 500gb hdd machines,on the last machine i saw there was no sound on tv3 and tg4 on playback,the other channels were ok.
i found when i played back a recording with no sound that the machine was in fact recording the program audio and the narrative sound track audio which is blank, for some reason the machine was playing back the blank narrative sound track
from memory it is possible to press the option buttion when playing back and select the audio option and change fromm narr to mpeg
i will give you the exact menu when i go home,
i did see this problem about a year ago and re tuning the box fixed the problem but the last machine i saw was not sorted by doing this,
it does not seem to happen to all machines.

Thanks very much for your reply Pegasus. I had a look through the option menu during playback and I can't see anything that lets me change the sound type...

I'll have a go at retuning the unit and see how it goes after that.

playback one of the programmes that has no sound
while it it playing
press option button on remote
scroll down to playback menu and press ok
you should see a new sub menu called playback settings and press ok
you should see a new sub menu listing with content highlighted in yellow
press > (right arrow) twice and change the audio option to eng(mpeg) or iri(mpeg) if the program was recorded on tg4.
this should restore sound.

i have found that some recordings revert to the incorrect nar (mpeg) option.

thia should make sense when you see the menu on your unit.

Are you sure it is not just the case that the AD ( audio description) button was enabled while recording or during playback in error ?
This has happened me a few times. Ensure it is set to disabled.

This issue was mentioned a few times in the recorders forum as well by other users.
