Have a few acres that I got tidied up,took advantage of the dry weather, with the favourable weather we have would it be ok to put seed in next week?...soil should be plenty warm and weather is mild.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

Like the guys say work away have seeded the week of the ploughing before and it worked out grand, put on a bit heavier than a bag of seed to the acre would be no harm though

Thanks for all replies,am going getting a lad to give me a hand at it at weekend, just checking dont you need circa 4 bags 10-10-20 to the acre along with seed to give seed a good start,it will be competing with a lot of weed and rush seeds to get started, going to go with bog and a half to acre with seed, will be expensive but only done once....it's hilly ground and wouldn't have seen much fertiliser.

You could throw a bag of glime per acre would give a good start. I usually mix glime and 10's together in spreader pass once

If it's competing with weeds and rushes, maybe go with 0-10-20. If you go with that much 10-10-20 the weeds will be a foot high before the grass has even popped up. Once the grass starts emerging fire out the N. The new grass will respond faster than the weeds to the N then
+1 on Frazz's Glime, never reseed without it.

Do you use glime on ground that has got ground lime?

Its a big chance but once weather keeps on your side they should be ok, but its still a big risk

Pardon my ignorance...but what's 'Glime'??...are you talking about lime?...will be doing this by hand mostly as its hilly.Concious time is getting short so was going to shake the seed and then the N the day after, good depth of good soil to spread it on,was cleaned off by digger and levelled out.

    Granular lime.

Thanks lads for advice,it's good ground that had mix of whins(furze) and light rushes on it,won't be easy to get at it again after this weekend so would it be ok to shake the seed on Sat and the N on Sunday?,will look into glime and mix in the glime with the fert when shaking it,see RightTurn Clyde suggested to leave putting out fert till grass is established but that might be hard done feasibly. Is 4 bags N to acre about right dose to help it establish?...bearing in mind ground would be N deficient?.
    Thanks again for views.

N won't help it establish/ germinate. Lime P & K is what it needs for that. Then 10 days to 2 weeks later when the green starts to appear it can use the N. Hence leaving N till later. Given what you're describing I'd say the lime is even more important than the P & K. Decaying vegetation on old leys like that create an acidic environment which germinating grass seed doesn't like. The lime is needed to neutralise this.

I appreciate your delimma though regarding the weather breaking. No point driving it on with N if you can't graze it.

3 bags of 10-10-20/acre and by the sounds of the place, I.d go with 3/4 bags of gran lime/ac.. gran lime is aporox €7/bag so a relatively small cost that is really important!

Only thought of it now...but prob very relevant regarding whether Granular lime is needed or not,.....the hill where reseeding will be done would be on limestone land,so would that lessen the need for lime input?

I'm surrounded by limestone and soil tests a few years back showed most of our fields were lacking so no guarantee there I'd say.
