I have a Technomate box myself and I just took a faulty Sky+HD box from my local recycling centre and salvaged the harddrive from it. I had a regular hard drive before which just failed spontaneously, the biggest enemy is heat and I removed the case from my old hard drive enclosure to allow it greater cooling but I plan to buy a hard-drive enclosure with fan later on.
