Battery needs replacing?

    Hi folks,
Honda jazz 2008 looks like original battery. Flat this morning. No lights working or radio etc. Called insurance and they sent rescue guy. It's part of policy benefits so grand. Anyway he came put charge on battery and everything back to life. He charged it for about ten minutes then tested the battery with what I guess is a battery charger. Charge showed 100% but battery effectiveness showed close to zero. He reckoned new battery needed but unfortunately he didn't have the right size in his van to sell me. He did offer to drive me to Halfords to pick one up.

The car is due in for service next week so I kindly declined the offer. If I'm sounding a little pessimistic here it's cause the exact same thing happened our last car, lights were left on and it ran flat. Same routine with rescue guy pushed hard on the down to Halfords for a new battery.

He also said not changing the battery would damage the starter as it would be under more stress than needed.

We didn't change the battery in the last car and never had any problems.

Should I be changing the battery in the jazz?

Or will a good run up the motor way for half hour be enough?

    Cheers
    Mick

Get the battery tested, any good motor factors will do this for you. If the battery is on it's way out you will know fairly quickly when the cold mornings come and it doesn't start, thing is it could be a day when you need the car urgently. If it is the original battery then you really cannot have any complaints after 6 years.

Getting it checked in motor factors in an hour. Found the culprit. Interior light left in on position. Bulb must have burned out as it's not working. Last time car was started was Wednesday night
