if it were at all possible to make an overnight transition to fame and celebrity by the wave of a magic wand, would you go with it, despite some of it's drawbacks?

If we assume that money comes with fame then I'd take that but leave the fame and celebrity thank you very much and continue my life of anonymity.

No. What would I want fame for? All I want is to be anonymous. And rich.

Achilles' choice. Long life and obscurity or a short one with everlasting fame.

Wealth, yes please. Fame, no thank you.

I don't want my every move picked apart and ridiculed, or not have the freedom to go where I want, whenever I want, without harassment.

I was thinking about this the other day.

I try to imagine how Prince Harry feels about being famous. I imagine he hates it, he is just famous for being the Prince not for being talented or doing good. Every where he goes he has cameras pointed in his face and more than likely has to watch what he does or says. It might be different for other famous people, all depends on who they are.

If fame meant financial security, knowing that I could count on having a roof over my head and food on the table for the rest of my life, regardless of what I did or didn't do ... bring it on. I could always leave the public spotlight if I wanted to, or (more likely) had amassed sufficient funds to keep me happy (which wouldn't take much).

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Fuck no. I had fame for 5 hours after a best man speech and after the first hour I got bored of the congratulations.and hand-wringing. Utterly tedious.

Not a chance! I would hate to be a celebrity and don't understand why people would want to be one.

Being famous in a particular field (and rich) but not being instantly recognisable to the general public would be much more agreeable.
