    hi all

I would like to find when the tax on newer cars rises?
how many years after purchase is the increase?

eg, 2009 ford focus 1.4L petrol

any idea how it changes and after what period?

    thx

It doesn't change. You stay on either cc based or co2 based the entire time.

There are 2 basis for motor tax in Ireland...

    - 08+ is based on CO2 emissions
    - Everything older is based on engine CC size

Rates are on www.motortax.ie and are revised (upwards!) during the Budget (in about 5 weeks from now this year but will take effect from January 1st).

Last year as far as I remember there were no changes, but as everyone bought low emission cars when the change happened, the tax take has been dropping as older cars drop out of the net, so over time I would fully expect newer CO2 cars to be hiked as well - there was an increase to the newer rates 2 years ago so maybe that's what your friend means.
