I found a good Lim bull crosses well on Hereford cows.
I'd be thinking going for a more traditional sire, grades would be worse. Though you might find them easier fleshed.

Do you finish all the stock? You'd get some lovely whitehead heifers out of a ch.

id be thinking same as Genghis cant .. better limo maybe.. whats the problem.. size? Quality... if you hell bent on changing you could go simm or a very easy calved charolais but if you new enough to it id steer clear of the charolais if especially if cows are on the small side, you would need to keep them slim and restrict diet 6-8 weeks prior to calving

If finishing your stock I found blue a good cross with Hereford.
Blue brings the muscle and Hereford brings the fat.

Also have a parthenaise out of a whitehead and his growth rate is fantastic

OP welcome to boards, do a google on robert parker + black baldie cows http://www.farmersguardian.com/black-baldies-change-of-emphasis/6649.article

He uses angus on hereford and then crosses back to hereford, sure you'd be always eligible for bonuses!

I have a couple and they do last well as cows.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Will the Angus out of a wh have any white in him and does that effect the aa bonus payment ?

If you want easy finishing on grass then go for hereford or angus. If you go with another continental you will probably still have a certain amount of meal to finish especially if on old grass.. I had he on he and they finish on grass very well, sometimes can even get to fat, especially the heifers. I have changed to a limo bull this year to improve grades.

Ya some have a white head, if angus is sire on the cards it should be ok, but some canadian angus leave calves with butts of horns which can cause problems at the lairage :o

Have you used the Bull Stq, I have him on one of my Angus Cows and was wondering what people make of his calves??

I have used STQ on a couple of Lim cows. I don't use that many AI BB bulls but I reckon that he's the best of them for selling weanlings. If I was keeping the weanlings to finish on farm, then I would go with Ross Alo (AZL). Great bull to grow height while still keeping muscle.

throw a charlaois on them, tut from eurogene throwing nice animals and very easy calved. i wouldnt mind the slightly grey shade from blacks either, it doesnt seem to put many buyers off and any little you'll loose on the shade will be made up with weight. there isnt enough of a difference in prices received for show calves to justify the loss on weight gain imo.

We used to put an easy calving charolais onto black whitehead cows about 20 years ago with major problem from what I remember. I think it was the AI bull PAN we used use but I was only a child back then so could be wrong.

I think PAN was pelletstown Alan, a limousine bull who's daughters were in high demand for Scottish farmers.
As you say I remember some hard calvings to AI bulls back then.
The sections were a big thing, where the cow had to be put lying, & 3/4 men had to lie on the cow to keep her down.
I use to watch thinking if only I was bigger now a day it's a far easier job thankfully

I've the wrong bull then. I know it was definitely an easy calving charolais we used. I remember the mousy colored calves we used to have. We might have used PAN though too on some as I remember some cows having black calves.

I wouldnt bother with a charolais on Hex cows. Most of the time you end up with a Charli WH and not a pure Charli.

Stick to the Sultan and you cant go wrong
