If you - or more likely*, if you know someone - who is a complete novice to group riding, and put off by the often male-dominated club spins, Orwell are running a 4 week programme in October designed to introduce you to the basics of your bike and riding in a group.

Details in the link (click >>here<< or the poster), including the sign-up form. Usual caveats apply - wear a helmet, rider a road bike, CI licence needed for insurance, but no Orwell membership needed.

Giving this a Friday morning bump - we're trying to get as many women in the saddle as possible, and up to the level of winter spins with their local club. Please spread the word!

    No hybrids allowed? :(

As a newb I'm sure there are good reasons I'm not aware of. Pity though.

As I understand it the problem with hybrids is the risk of a straight bar hooking a drop-bar and causing a crash. Almost all cycling clubs don't allow them for safety reasons.

Ah! That makes sense. Thank you.

I started out with Orwell women's spins and used to tag along as a helper. Great introduction to cycling and the skills session is well worth doing.

Same here back in 2006. Great people to get started with. I met amazing people I'm still friends with and cycle or race with. (nak is one of them)

Thanks Buffalo, my sister's going to be giving this a go.

We did Joe Daly's to Enniskerry and back at the weekend in preparation. Her longest cycle yet.

Did you stop for coffee and scone?! That's the best way to hook people in y'know :pac:

Coffee and cake! I don't really agree with scones at coffee stops.

I saw on the Orwell Facebook page that if you're waiting on a license from Cycling Ireland before signing up then go ahead and sign-up with 'license to follow' and give the license number when you have it.
