    Advise please.

Out of the blue I was contacted by a Skoda dealer today offering me a straight swap on my 131 Skoda Octavia Exclusive 1.6 diesel (25,000Km) for a 141 Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.6 diesel (25,000Km). Someone wants an Exclusive.

Does anyone think I should go for it?

Is there anything wrong with your car?

If not I'd keep it. You never know what the other car has been like.

    What's difference in spec?

Exclusive: auto wipers, auto dim rear view mirror, half leather, sat nav, crusie control, dual zone air con, bluetooth, parking sensors

elegance: bluetooth, dual zone air con. cruise control, parking sensors

The only advantage I can see is going form a 131 old model to a 141 new model.

I personally don't like that new model at all. My parents have an 11 old model elegance which has been bulletproof. We have neighbours that have a 132 new model and it's been in the skoda garage twice with problems. First one split intercooler hose second one dpf trouble not regenerating properly. This was with less than 15 k km on it. Now I'm sure in general they should be quite reliable. But then you'd have to wounder why the dealer is giving you a straight swap I'd tread carefully as the 141 could be crashed or English import (not necessarily a bad thing but still) etc.

If the 141 checks out its a far, far superior car.

Only spec difference is Nav and half pleather.

The spec seems night and day.
New model seems like a big improvement to me in terms of design but seems sparce spec wise.
Would dealer consider fitting navigation for you in the new one to get some of your spec back.
Alternatively, you could consider adding some spec yourself if you think it's a good deal.

Not if the OP is correct above, surely, unless the 14 is a new model as opposed to a facelift?

Could you live with no auto wipers, auto dim rear view mirror, satnav? I could, because I have never had these options.

Otoh, once you have had a dishwasher, it is very hard to go back to the old way - water charges excluded.

OP: if going for this 'deal', remember you are in the driving seat here. Someone wants your car - if you really want to swap, make someone pay. Either them, in cash, or the dealer in installing satnav (at least) in the incoming car.

However, if someone else drives your current car, maybe the auto wipers and auto-dimming rear view mirror are important too. Probably relatively easy to enable these options too...

Remember the dealer is making money from it.

They are not in the habit of doing favors.

Sat Nav can't be installed into the new model without a huge cost, it's not as easy as it was on previous models. The new model elegance should have auto lights and wipers with auto dim mirror standard.

Given the exclusive had a pretty low rent nav system in it I wouldn't miss it as much as the extra comfort, refinement, space, dynamics the new model has over the old.

The residuals on a newer model over an older model in 4 or 5 years when you go to trade up will far outweigh your current spec differential..

Elegance is second-from-top trim level (L&K is highest) so it should have everything the exclusive has plus more.

Standard elegance has satnav according to the brochure?

Also bi-xenon lights and park assist.

Is your 131 pre or post facelift?

That's a Superb, not an Octavia.

Is it possible that they are offering a 141 registered old model? That would be a terrible deal.

No its the new model. On the spec I was wrong initially, the only difference is the half leather and sat nav.
So I am thinking with the new shape, newer car, extra leg room in the back, and only loosing on the above I might go for it. That's assuming that it's all above board as iv not yet checked the car out.
The neighbours will think I'm made of money as I only recently got the car. They would never believe the actual story.

25,000km in 9 months when you've done that same mileage in just under 2 years seems like a lot.. but I guess it depends how it's been driven

If the spec is not so different, it doesn't make sense that they would make the offer really.

Their story is that some guy really wants an exclusive so I imagine any profit would be from him.
Of course I am also thinking that they know something about the exclusive that I don't and it's going to double in value next week :D

Sounds like a no brainer at this stage. Also, you didn't buy new so it's not as if you are getting a second hand car having bought a new car.

Is the 141 an ex car rental?

    Too good to be true.
I went to the dealership and ofcourse they denied all knowledge of ever saying they would do a direct swap andthe guy looking for the car seemed to fade away. It looks like they wanted meto turn up and fall in love with the new model.

The car itself did turn out to be an ex rental and even before I copped theywere not doing an exchange, I was going to run.

I never trusted a sales man before, but what happened today beats all. Iwill more than likely never set foot inside that West Cork Skoda dealershipagain.
I complained to the manager and he was worse.

Here I am a potential customer with perhaps 20-30K to spend in 4-5 years andthey let me walk away feeling like that.
I’m not a business person but if I had a dealership I would do everything inmy power to satisfy a very unhappy customer even if it meant giving somethingsmall like a €100 voucher towards a service or something.:mad::mad:

    That's disappointing.
I know my parents regularly get sales calls from local vw dealer. Once, they had a car less than 1 year and salesman was on to them saying he had customer for their car as it was high spec and would give them a very good deal on a new one.
They had no notion of changing but worked out a price that would make sense if he was in fact giving a great deal.
He was 5k away from that price so it was just sales bluff.
I figure you got a similar call but perhaps the salesman got alittle bit carried away.

That's a bummer! What serious business would try something like that on?

That's brutal OP. Its bananas behaviour from the dealer. A few weeks ago you were a satisfied customer happy with your car and they could have expected a chance to deal again when you were next changing...now they have lost you for good.

It sounds like that salesman is under serious pressure to shift motors if he was trying to hook you in with such a crazy offer and hoping to be able to claw back once you came in. No one would have behaved any differently then you did.
