    Hi All

Just recently moved to the area, and was looking to see if there was a local cycling club/ training group rides in the Celbridge area.

    Regards

The Bikeworx team are based in cellbridge, other than that there is Lucan CRC not too far away.

What you want from a cycling club will determine which of the above clubs is best suited to you.

Anyone interested in starting group early Saturday mornings and if it takes off consider forming club etc?

    KildareCommuter

I'd be interested in that, I believe Bikeworx is more of a specialised top level team !

Maybe try the Lucan club so. They have a healthy number of leisure/sportive riders

Yeah I'd be interested too. What kind of distance we thinking?

I'd say just go down to Lucan and join the 60Km or sportive group and see if you actually enjoy the group dynamic. Cycling in a group isn't for everyone. Lucan are a good friendly bunch if I do say so and will make anyone feel welcome.

Les Plonquers a good mixture of older experienced riders & some younger ones meet at Applegreen (the one on the Maynooth side of Celbridge) on Saturday mornings at 10.30 and also on the bridge on Sunday mornings at 9.30

I was kinda thinking 50-60 ish to start with or whatever folks are comfortable with.
My only problem is need to go early Saturdays 7.30am ish as generally have taxi duties later which is main reason haven't considerd joining other groups/ clubs

I might be interested one saturday morning. The weather is starting to turn a bit. Generally I do 80km - 100km but would consider other distances.

Lucan club are quite competitive I havent checked out the bikeworx one but ther is also the Blanch wheelies and a club in maynooth.

I'd say there is a fair interest in Celbridge though I know a few lads that I have done a couple of Sportives with too.

    Sure let me know.

Not sure I follow that. Have you been out for a spin with Lucan recently?

Of all the clubs you mentioned, Lucan CRC have the broadest range of groups out on the road this Autumn/Winter. There is a Beginner, Sportive, Intermediate and then 1 or 2 racing groups, depending on numbers. Both Sportive and Intermediate groups are fairly laid back - in particular at this time of year - and cover the sort of distances you've mentioned you do yourself.

If you want to get out on a regular basis with a group of people then you can be guaranteed a weekly spin with any of the clubs you mentioned.

Enjoy your cycling, whatever you guys here decide to do!:)

Can I ask what you mean by this?

Lucan have something to suit everyone. 60km group, sportive group, inter group and then various racing groups over the winter.

To be honest of all the clubs you mentioned I can honestly say that they/we have the broadest range of groups and particularly so at this time of year when things are taken down a small bit across all the groups.

Best of luck no matter where you end up?

Yeah, the lads are right. Lucan are absolutely uncompetitive.

Sorry was not meaning to step/cycle on anybody's toes. Just from discussion with fellow cyclists the opinion of Lucan Crc is that they do 50km for breakfast. I seem to be misinformed.

I'm only at the 22- 24kmph level and this information was coming from lads up at the 32kmph level.

Anyway if anyone wants to meet up for a spin let me know. My strava is below most routes out of celbridge. Feel free to add me cycling just over a year.

If you can do that speed on you own then 26/28kmph in a group is very easily achieved. Sportive group would be a good place to start. Inters are around 28-31kmph at the moment but some Saturdays can be quite hilly.

No toes being stepped on, and you may only be slightly misinformed. As the others have said, Lucan has everything from a 60km very easy group to the 50km for breakfast and then a decent race pace 100 group. As for being uncompetitive, I stand over my record of being dropped in almost all races, and most sportives. :o

If you want any information about the groups, you can ask away.

If anyone fancies regular trips into Wicklow and back from Celbridge, mostly Mondays but could do Sundays. Give me a shout. I don't mind what level you're at, but any spin would be over 70km with some nice climbing.

Does anyone know if Bikeworx do a beginner/sportive level of cycle training spins, or is it just the higer level.

I would be interested in meeting for cycles alright, and the Bikeworx shop is just up the road from me.

    Let me know.

Does this group still head out on Saturdays. What kind of speed and distance is covered. Who do I contact to find out, or is it just turn up at that time.
