    hi,

I completed a cycle today and saved it as normal. When I got home I plugged the 810 into my laptop to charge and expected to see it on Strava an hour later but it never uploaded.

The cycle does exist on my Garmin 810 but when I select view last ride it won't load up on the 810. I can get the .fit file via USB on the laptop but I can't upload it to garmin express or strava. Is the ride corrupt ? Can it be fixed ?

Is your plug in up to date? Has the computer recognised the Garmin?

Yes all is up to date. I did a dummy 5 minute race on the 810 (20 minutes ago) and when I saved it went straight up to garmin express the website. So its clearly a problem with the individual ride. It must be corrupt ?

You can try uploading it manually to strava using the file upload feature ( and browse to the garmin history folder directly ).

Are the files defaulting as .fit ? If its there as a .tcx you can upload it to ridewithgps.com. The upload performs a file maintenance procedure which cleans any waypoint errors that might have corrupted the file. Once uploaded, export it again as a .tcx and upload to strava/ garmin express.

Possible alright. Can you get the file in gpx I think? Allows you to up load . Might be able to access it through the computer as you would on a usb

    hi !

Thanks for the reply. I made some progress via this site :

    http://www.scarletfire.co.uk/fix-corrupt-garmin-fit-file/

It seems corrupt yes but it was able to retrieve most of all the data. The only problem is that the GPS went hairwire and but my end point 10,00km in Russia. It uploaded to Strava but I had to delete it because it was a bit of a embarrassment.

    **edit

It seems as though there is a problem with the "Device Totals" and if this is fixed then the rest of the data can be saved. I used FTRepair but didn't enter anything for "New Device Totals" so it put the end point 10,000 east.

Why not just crop the offending point on Strava?

Have you tried deleting the 'Totals' file on your device?

It's not funny. The route is saved perfect but at the end point when I finished - it goes off on a straight line like a bad hair day over to Russia and ruins all my training data. So I had to delete it and work on fixing it. I put a lot of effort in.

It has something to do with totals but I don't know how it fits together.

Backup the totals file on your PC, then delete it from the Garmin.

Upload the route file again to strava and use the edit to chop off the errant piece at the end. Export the corrected route back to the device. Make sure to name it as the original file name.

Reboot, and it should create a new totals file.

Or...backup the history folder contents and do a master reset.

Good idea. That seems to have worked. I cropped and so deleted a couple of hundred of meters - it gave me a normal cycle.

The only thing is that it flattened the elevation of the entire cycle on the strava graphic. I might try a few refreshes first.

I didn't try sending it back to the device yet.

It should still have the elevation data. Export it from strava to your PC. Then delete it and upload it back up to strava from the exported file.

Someone on garmin fixed the file for me. He must have had the full software. I deleted the cropped ride I uploaded earlier and uploaded the fixed file he gave me and it is now perfect. It has the elevation on the map and my times. I will copy it back to my garmin soon.

Thanks for all the help !
