    Hi all,

Looking for some advice. Have lost my punto 01 car key. Have card with key code on it.

Is this an automatic callout - any idea or what it should cost or where I should go? Am in north Dublin.

    All suggestions very gratefully received.

Now to figure out the clothes hanger thing to get my work stuff out of the car :)

Get a key, barrel and immobiliser from a scrapyard would probably work out cheaper....

Must check, but I think they are mated with the ECU also.

edit; They are. Would probably work out cheaper to get a replacement key made.

You'll have to get a key from the stealers, the mk2 uses Code2 which is a rolling code generator rather than the traditional dumb RF chip. No locksmith can code these keys. You'll need to get the key cut at the dealers anyway, since you don't have one for a locksmith to copy. €200 was the going rate about three years ago, and as far as I know the car must be present at the dealers.

The code card you have is for emergency bypass of the immobiliser if it breaks, rather than identifying the keyset. You still need an actual cut key to be able to use it, and even then it takes a few minutes to input the code through a combination of throttle input and key turns every time you want to start the car.

As well as the above, the ECU is also paired to the key (rather, the immo box, but the net effect is the ECU matches the key). You would also need at the very least the driver's door lock. When you factor in the locksmith's fee to get you into the car, transport to a mechanic and his labour fees to change the keyset, it would quickly add up. Even DIY I'd say you would spend as much as getting a replacement key.

They're not that expensive if you diy it.

I'd personally just order the new key myself. You'd want to be handy enough with cars to change all the stuff required to use a key from a scrap car. Surly replacing the ecu and fuse board is just asking for trouble. It's grand changing all this stuff and the ignition barrel and door locks and fuel cap until you go to start the car and either it doesn't start or it throws up a loud of fault lights. Then your worse of and down 100 quid. I'd just ring a few of the nearest fiat dealers and which ever is the best price. Your looking at around 200 euro to order the key and get them to code it.

So it's around €200 to get it tomorrow.
Or around €95(with Parcel Motel) to get the DIY bits by next Tuesday or so. And then fit them all yourself (if you have to pay someone to fit them then it's definitely cheaper to just get a new key).

    Back to you OP.

By the way, that coat hanger thing is rubbish!

I'm a bit different as I was quoted 600 for a replacement key....if it's the same for the punto, I'd be waiting until Tuesday!
