Question about renewing learner's permit

I let my learner's permit expire over a year ago so went into the ndls to have a renewal 2 weeks ago. When I was leaving, the guy said I'd have the licence in 5-8 days but it still hasn't come yet.
He also handed me a piece of paper and said "You can use this until your licence comes", however the piece of paper says "This receipt is proof of payment/application only and cannot be used in place of a Driving Licence/Learner Permit".
I'm only getting insured on someone else's car for a month as I have to do some things for them while they're away.
Can I use this piece of paper or do I have to wait for the licence (While my insurance expires)

99% of the time if you are stopped by the Gardai they won't have a problem with you producing the sheet as proof of having a Learner Permit.

However legally speaking, it is not supposed to be used as a Learner Permit, you should wait for your permit to arrive BUT if you are stopped the Garda will most likely understand that the queues with the NDLS are giant and that there is a long waiting time.

I'm in the same situation as you, waiting for my licence to come through.

The insurance company will want a copy of your licence. The sheet won't be accepted by the insurance company.

They will insure you for a full month until you produce your licence.
I got insured the day that I applied for my licence two months ago and was given a months cert until I showed them.
