Alternative to Mayrhofen

    Hi,
We've been to Mayrhofen 3 out of the last 4 years and we are looking for a change. We do a Friday to Tuesday trip with an early flight out and a late flight home so we get 3 full days and two half days skiing. The resort must be less than 3 hours from Munich Airport and preferably in Austria.
I tried Saalbach but they only really do 7 day rentals.
Can anyone recommend somewhere similar that would be worth trying? Would Westendorf, Bad Gastein or St Johann be worth a try?
I've done Soll, Zell Am See, Kirchberg and Saalbach already.

    Thanks.

Westendorf and St Johann don't come close to Mayrhofen in terms of area, snow cover etc imo (I've been to all 3). Have never been to Bad Gastein but have you considered St Anton or Lech? You'd get a lot of the way there on German roads, just under 3 hours.

Don't rule out Zurich airport either, can be cheap flights from time to time. St Anton would be about 2 hours from here.

Thanks stevire, we looked at St Anton but the accommodation is very hard to find and the few places we did find were very expensive.
Maybe we should just go back to Mayrhofen...

Saalbach is the obvious one, there is a few threads on here with accommodation recommendations that might help.

St Anton, Lech and Zurs are all pricey compared to Mayrhofen,

Alpbach, slightly smaller but the same price bracket and different!

Solden, snowsure, glacier resort with a decent night life!

And for something completely different Garmisch-Partenkirchen cheap, not all that snowsure but when it is good it is fantastic! and it has a glacier if conditions are bad.

St Anton and Ischgl are both class but you will find it very difficult to get accommodation for those dates because you're crossing two weeks. You'd have to hold out until the week before or else stay out of the towns, in Flirsch (for St Anton) or Galtur (for Ischgl). You will get good accommodation very cheap in both.

I assume you've skiied the other resorts in the Zillertal valley, Kaltenbach / Hochfugen, Zillertal Arena and Hintertux?

Should also say jet2ski is a website that shows resorts a given distance from airports.

Don't know how many is in your group but AirBnb is worth a look.

Avoid any ads with email as their profile picture, it's against Terms of Service to advertise email before booking is made and this is how the scammers operate!
