So, who's up for a bit of Planetside 2 tonight?

We mentioned in the other thread that we might have a lash of Planetside 2 this evening as a group. I got it reinstalled last night and I have discovered that all my previous characters (and it's been 18ish months since I played) have disappeared and what's worse, my character names taken. Most frustrating.

Anyway, I had to start again from the beginning and have a Conglomerate character named Davrondomar on the Miller EU server.

Pfft; Miller is VS territory (besides I'll pull a fully certed PPA 'rasser and run you into a 96+ vs 96+ TR vs. NC battle with it over and over again!)! :P

I just installed a new GTX770 and was thinking "What is a monster of a game that can run this through its paces?" and I thought "Planetside 2 is a bastard on your system..."

Used to love flying around as Light Assault. Might give it a go on the weekend, not tonight though.

I think i'm on Miller, though i'll have to check. If not, i'll roll a new character there.

So yeah, i'll join after the Spurs game.

I have no idea what any of what you just said means Nody :D

Turns out, I have a second Sony account on a different email address and that's the one I played with before. It was still in Beta so I think the stats have been completely reset :(

If you guys need a TS server, I help run GaelLords.com. You can create your own passworded channel in there if you like.
I'll see if CS:GO will let me away for an hour or so to join you.

F*ck it, I'm in. I'll be home in an hour or so, and it'll be better for my health than my usual Thursday evening hobby of getting depressed about the stupid religious/conservative stuff I read on Twitter.

Translation: I like shiny purple spandex and shouting 'zzzzzzzZap!' When I point my plastic Mattel pewpew gun at people!

    :pac:

Ah yes, the Transients (I called my purple character Fred Christ in their honour).

I basically offered you to have 200 people crying over how OP your gun was by pew pewing shiny balls of doom at them :P

I find those infiltrators who do drive bys with a cloaked bike and shotgun to be far more harassing than the Harassers, tbh. Bastards.

Created a NC character there, and will log on in about 10 minutes. Can we create a group or something?

    Will log into TS now.

    That was fun chaps, gg.

Yeah, enjoyed that and will definitely play some more over the weekend. The game looks bloody stunning when you've got a big battle going on, with missile trails all over the place.

I've about 4000 station points to spend, so i'll take any tips on how to spend it as well.

    Level 4!!!!!

Had no idea what was going on in the beginning, then just followed one of you and shot at what you were shooting at.

I dinged from lvl 3 to 7 I think (remembering that the game gave me an XP Booster thing last night for me to use, so I applied that this evening for great justice. I also bought the 2X Holo sight for the LMG for the heavy assault guy cause mid range engagements suit him best. I had 450 spacemoneys and it was only 50 I think.

    Depends on what you enjoy.

    In general:

    MAX
Burster arm (and extended mags on both arms for SC)
    Falcon arm (dual AV)
Shotgun arm (make sure you pick the right arm!)

That gives you AA/AV/AI but you then need to dump further certs into the MAX and it can be a bit anti newbie friendly and die easily.

Vehicles you don't really need to buy anything; if anything vehicles require certs (3k+ / vehicle) to make them competitive and experience on top it off.

Infantry is once again personal preferences; SAW is considered not very newbie friendly (require all modules on it) so a new LMG like Anchor may be worth considering (close range LMG) or a pump shot gun for your LA (One Hit Kill).

Once again though certs for C4 (two blocks blow up a tank but not a Sundy!), certs into Flak armor (explosive resistance) or Nano (direct health but negated by head shots) depending on preferences (I'm 100% Flak because that means I can escape tanks, ESF and run over mines).

In general though there's not that much that's "OMGWTFBBQ" that I'd buy as a starter in PS2; hitting BR20ish will give you enough experience to really figure out what you want :)

The vr training gives you access to everything, muck around in that to see which weapons and add-ons you prefer.

Yeah, did that for a bit last night and bought a few guns. Still have over 2000 points though, so i'll hold onto them for the time being.

Won't get to play much this weekend, but after showing a friend a video of a massive night battle, i really want to jump back in.

Well decided to give it a go as I only played early Beta. I bought some of founders packages back then, but it was only for US. For some stupid reason other company was handling EU side of planetside.... I got pissed off and never came back to it.

So turns out they now using proper station accounts and I got 6000sc. Is that a lot and will it even buy me a skin?

Anyway, it is updating now and I will see how I will get on. Hopefully performance is sorted out too as it ran like a dog!

Other than maybe a few boosts to increase your XP gain, unless there's anything you really really want to get - hold off until things are on sale. Then scoop them up. Packs are decent - IF they're on sale and you don't have anything from them already.

For the record though, the MOST a weapon will usually cost you is 1000SC. Skins are far less, most weapon attachments are around 30SC - though you can get them cheap enough with certs.

If you want to get a weapon and are playing TR, get the Lynx. It's an absolute beast of a weapon.

A couple of camo skins are worth picking up. Every faction's basic colour scheme stands out like a sore thumb in at least one of the continents. The VS's regular black/purple is delightfully easy to pick out in your scope on the snowy blues/white of Esamir for example. It'll probably add a few milliseconds to someone seeing you, quite important in a battle with a hundred people each side...

Skins are usually 500SC, 1000 for black once. You basically want 1 desert (indar), 1 white/grey (Esamir) and one dark green (Amerish/Hossin); all exist as named "Indar desert" etc.

For weapons a max of 1k but as noted buy them on sale only as the starting weapons are perfectly fine (and you'd get one additional weapon per class in the founders pack as well). If you roll on Miller and go VS I'll show you the ropes (and you get to roll with the most fun tank in the game; the Magrider) :)

Few ms? I've probably been tked more often because of my skins then confusing the enemy :P

Seems I was on the Beta for this ( dont remember tbh) up to level 5 with 27? points to spend a gun is 1000.

That cant be right? Going with Engineer seems to get me a ****load of points repairing Max and popping out bullets.

The Support classes (Medic and, particularly, Engineer) are absolute certa machines. Pop out your ammo pack, pop down your medic shield regen yokamebob: ka-ching!

Double XP weekends and a cert boost gives you absolutely ridiculous cert income. 500XP per kill, for starters.
