Going Self Employed... While Doing Internship? - Details inside

My wife is qualified in massage, nails, beauty, tanning and has all the equipment. She is currently mid way through a 9 month internship/job bridge at a beauty therapists.

She's wanting to set out on her own, as a mobile therapist to start with, but obviously would need some sort of a client base before hand, so she wants to do weekends on her own while doing the internship so that she would have some steady clients for when the internship ends.

My question is, can she advertise her services and get paid for the work she is doing up until a certain point? - ie. until she starts making a certain amount of income?

I think in the UK you don't have to register as a business until then. Is it the same here?

What other things does she need to know before venturing out?

Was she on Job Seekers Benefit or Allowance beforehand? ... I suspect it will make a difference.

Mmm moving the thread to State Benefits, you'll get better answers there I think.

If she is receiving Job Seekers Benefit or a similar payment, the Back to Work scheme might be worth looking at.

    Job seekers allowance.
She's doing the job bridge/ back to work scheme right now. She's a few month into it, but she wants to build a small client base by doing her own weekend work before diving into full self employment. We just wanted to know what she is allowed to do or how much she can earn before having to declare herself as a business. Like, can she advertise her services for a couple of months to see if the business will work out before going full throttle into it?
