Identify Hi-Fi Speaker Connector / Other Questions

    Hi,

I bought a new mini Hi-Fi today for the kitchen. A Sony HCD-S20B.

I want to put the main unit into one of the kitchen cabinets and the speakers on top of the cabinet, feeding the power and speaker cables through a small hole that I'll drill in the cabinet. I also want to hook up two extra speakers from my old hifi. But I've a few questions:

    1. I plan to drill only a small hole in the cabinet, so I want to remove the speaker connectors. What is the type of speaker connector, labelled A in the attached picture?

    2. If I remove the cables from this connector (A) can I also feed the bare speaker cables (labelled B) along with the original cables back into the same connector? Even though my old speakers have an impedance of 4ohm and the impedance of the Hi-Fi is 8ohm?

    3. The plug labelled C. It's one of the newer plugs. Can this be removed from the power cable and re-attached easily? I don't see any screws on it.

    Thanks for you help!

The new system only has connections for two speakers, you cannot wire up the other speakers as planned as this will overload the amp and almost certainly destroy it!

8 and 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel will work out at something like 2-3 ohms, the system needs 8 ohm speakers only.

The speaker connections are Sony proprietary, it's highly unlikely you can buy them separate so the best you can do is cut the wires and join them again afterwards!
There would be warranty voiding issues here of course!

Regarding the mains plug,Moulded plugs are standard now as the EU has deemed it unsafe for unqualified people to wire their own plugs these days. In fairness, given some of the mental ways I've seen it done by some people, they are correct!

The plug can only be cut off and a new one added, that is if you can find one these days! It's easy enough to buy new leads, but not separate plugs , not these days!

Removing the mains plug can invalidate warranty also

    Another quick question...

I'm going to use a wire block connector to re-attach the speaker wires after I've cut them.

What amp wire block should I use? 3 amp or 5 amp?

Or does it even make a difference?

It probably won't make a difference.

What would make some difference is a wire block made specifically for speakers, which would probably be gold plated, but unless it's a high-end system, it's probably not going to be really noticeable anyway.
