    How long after an assault happens do you have to report the incident ??

    I'm not sure what information you need, with that question.

    Mandatory reporting applies to very few offences and it doesn't apply to simple assault.

    If you want to make a complaint to Gardai about an assault, then you should probably do it straight away.

    Section 2 assault, 6 months.

    No limit if it's more serious, but there are obvious reasons why you don't want to delay a complaint/prosecution

    To to clarify a summary matter the summons must be requested within 6 months of the incident to report the matter at or near the end of that period may not leave enough time to request the summons.

    “harm” means harm to body or mind and includes pain and unconsciousness;

    Assault causing harm.

    3.—(1) A person who assaults another causing him or her harm shall be guilty of an offence.

    (2) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable—

    (a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to a fine not exceeding £1,500 or to both, or

    (b) on conviction on indictment to a fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or to both.

    OP bear in mind there are differing levels of assault, posters thus far have assumed you're aware of the different definitions - I am assuming otherwise. I apologise if you did in fact mean assault as defined by section 2 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997
