bullying and pressure from manager

    Hi all,
    I'm just wondering if you have advice. I have been bullied the past few years...consistently put down for 'doing too much work'. Getting told that as I am so quick at my work im bound to be making more mistakes (even thou my records great) I was getting called teachers pet and that I was the favourite. Generally just constantly putting me down and my confidence plummeted. Ive been off work since june with workpkace stress and anxiety, ive gone to their doctor who recommended another two months before another review. My manager asked me a few times over the phone if I was actually going to take the doctors recommendation... the previous weeks when he called he would ask me what I am talking about in therapy and last week says that the bullying was secondary to my personal issues. I had been off in a week in May and the previous July for two weeks. When I first advised him I had anxiety he said if its due to work maube I should step down from my leader role (which I worked hard for) I was afraid then that he'd try get rid of me or make me go down a level so until this june I never admitted it was mostly due to work...now he is making out that the bullying was nothing..one admitted to it the others didnt.
    Sorry for the long story...feel like im stuck cause If I leave then I wont be entitled to most sw payments...

    Nobody here can tell you if you have a case. If you want to take a case, you need to talk to an employment law solicitor.

    Your health is the most important here. Don't stay in a place that's causing you so much anguish.

    Op, I hate to tell you but the bullying does seem to be secondary to your personal issues. Your work-life is not balanced.

    I think people gave you good advice when they told you to stop working so hard. There was a time when people would end up with broken fingers if they tried to work harder than their colleagues (as it made the colleagues look bad and could stretch their targets). Sad, but true. You're didn't get your fingers broken but they kept at you and now you're out sick, so mission accomplished.

    Then you say you held a "leader" role.. I wonder are the people you "lead" are the same ones bullying you? If you got the promotion through your quality and speed, I hate to break it to you, but those traits don't necessarily make a good leader.

    Get your anxiety issues sorted out and play it smarter at work.

    Yes, it can be boring making 4 hours work stretch to 7.5.
    It can be helpful to take on a little process improvement project, or a clean-up exercise, that keeps you busy .. better than sitting at your desk with a pair of headphones in doing one of those courses, so it's clear to everyone else you're not working.

    Respectfully, the best advice you should follow is that of your GP or any other Medical advisor you may be attending. Your Medical advisers certainly have your best interest at heart.

    You may also seek the advice of an Employment Law Specialist in relation to the bullying aspect of this situation. You are only obliged to supply your Employers with a cert from GP. Until you feel well enough, do not entertain calls from your boss. It sounds like he is a coward and is trying to cover his tracks.
