To be honest there is little need at this time of year. A few nights frost and they will be dead anyway.

Maybe so but apparently the queen bee does not die and will come back next season with a vengence!

Also there are of kids playing beside it and im fearful they will get stung in the dying season.

The young queens hibernate yes but they disperse. The same nest is not used. The OP can seal the hole when they are gone anyway.

The main thing is don't panic.....
Now get yourself a motorbike helmet a long raincoat and a baseball bat oh and tuck your jeans into your socks now stand at your kitchen door and start doing eh something like the Hacka, when you feel your ready swing open the door, run out towards the gazebo screaming and shouting like a complete psycho and swinging the bat in every direction... After about 5 min's and when you have completely destroyed the gazebo, stop and retreat to your hide-out(kitchen).. Check after about a 'day'... If they are not gone by then well fcuk knows..... Hope this helps.
