Casting a Mould

    Hi all.

I was looking to make a statue from modelling clay and cast a mould from it if possible rather then obviously hand moulding other statues individually. Its a long time since i done moulding and my experience needless to say is very small.

Would this stuff be suitable for casting and if so what would be the best substance to cast the mould in?

What material will the cast statues be made of - plaster?

The self hardening clay would be suitable for modelling the statue, initially.

To cast the statue the best stuff I know is called vinamold - but its very expensive and has to be heated to a high temperature. From the vinamold you can easily cast plaster or wax positives.

If you wanted to slip cast then you could make a 2 part plaster mould with pour holes. Then you can cast in earthenware, terracotta, stoneware or regular casting slips - fire to make bisque.
If you don't have a kiln, I offer a kiln firing service ;)
