Vauxhall Zafira 1.7 cdti - Service

I purchased a diesel Zafira earlier this year and now it is due a service. I used to own a petrol corsa and was able to do the service on that myself, I don't know that much about cars but was shown how to service the corsa and found it quite straight forward.
I'm contemplating servicing the Zafira now myself, The oil filter and change of oil should be straight forward enough, but not sure about the fuel filter, heard that you can have all sorts of problems if its not done right. Also I wonder would it be necessary to do the fuel filter on every service?

Also wondering if maybe I should just do the oil and filter change this time myself and maybe just bring it to a garage next time and let them do a full service next time.

    Any advice appreciated......

The fuel filter wouldn't be due every service. 40k miles would be the approx recommended interval but if I were you I would get it done every 20-30k due to the crap fuel in this country. To be honest I wouldn't recommend DIY-ing the filter change on one of those. They are very fiddly to do and there is lots that can go wrong. The clips on the pipes are easy to break. The filter housing itself is easy to break when opening and tightening. Sometimes the sealing ring doesn't seat properly and subsequently leaks. Plus even if you get through all of the above without incident they are extremely easy to airlock and difficult to bleed. We have had to tow start a few after doing filter changes on them.

A couple of suggestions as the car is new to you (please excuse the O/T'ness)

    1. Does your local public library have a copy of the' Haynes book of lies' available to borrow for your motor ?

    2. Have you located any 'enthusiast sites' for the zaffy ? e.g.

Yea the more I think about it the more I don't think ill chance the fuel filter, If its every 20 - 30k miles then I can leave it til the next service or the one after that. Might bring it to a garage and get them to do a full service at that stage.

Think ill have to get that ' Haynes book of lies' - it could come in very handy. Might check the local library first, i'm sure my son wont mind me borrowing his library card haha.

That site looks great, certainly a lot of posts about Zafira's in it
