Do you love your chicken? Can't do without it? Need you fix so much you'll go to great lengths to get it?

The local store here in New Plymouth burnt down a couple of weeks back and now KFC are organising a bus to the nearest store, 70km or about an hours travel so people can satisfy their cravings.

The same thing happened in 2010 while the store was being upgraded. Is it a bit much or would you need your fix badly enough to get on board?
A colonel's road trip is being organised to help New Plymouth fried chicken fans satisfy their cravings.

Whispers about a bus trip to the Hawera store this weekend surfaced yesterday after a post appeared on the KFC Facebook page asking if anyone was interested.

General manager Jamie McKaughan confirmed the speculation and told the Taranaki Daily News "there was a lot of truth to the rumours".

"I want to help our wonderful New Plymouth community. We're going to put a colonel's coach together and offer it up in a competition. We'll put them on a bus to Hawera let them have their meal then bus them back," he said.

The New Plymouth store caught fire at the start of the month and has been closed for two weeks while it's stripped and re-built.

In the mean time fans of the colonel's secret recipe having been travelling south for a fix, McKaughan said.

Committed chicken lovers did the same thing in 2010 when the New Plymouth store closed while it underwent a $1.5 million upgrade. When it did re-open, less than three months later, there was a stampede on the restaurant which caused traffic chaos and waits of up to 40 minutes.

Come on buddy, now everybody knew as soon as you walked in the goddamn door you were gonna get some chicken!

What is wrong with some people that they can't just do without it until the place reopens? A 140km for some KFC? It'd want to be laced with crack and served in a solid gold bucket.

Every year or so I'll get a craving for KFC, go in order it, remember that eating their chicken is basically like eating grease and feel sick.

Their burgers can be decent mind. But there's never, ever enough staff. You're always waiting 10 minutes or so in a big queue no matter what time of the day.

KFC will wreck your bowels with an explosive case of the ****s around 70% of the time, you'd have to be a stone mad joke of a human to willingly allow yourself to consume it so far from your own house

The odd time I get a hankering for their burgers and chicken gravy but always feel a bit queasy afterwards. Plus the nearest one to me has possibly the slowest service of all time.

70km holding a scuttery sh1te on the clutch is good for no one.

There's no winners in that situation.

My local kfc is ****e, its almost never busy and because of that the chicken is left in the keep warm thing for most of the day and whenever ya go ya get this dry ****in chicken that aint nice. So i wouldn't be rushing out to get any.

Before there was a KFC in Galway there were loads of folk who'd drive to Athlone just for KFC.

Sudden urge for a bucket of chicken. The local residents nitwits association are looking for ideas to improve De Community. Suggesting a KFC franchise should keep me from being elected to anything responsible for yet another year.

    Nice one.

I would walk naked in a blizzard to get some KFC whenever I had a craving. :)

...which might explain why they closed down your local KFC.

    1) KFC is a lot nicer in the US then it is here.

    2) People who would bus it an hour each way to get it are still nuts.

Heard people raving about their gravy.

Went in to try it - it's just tasteless gloop.

Good lord, there's way better fried chicken available but for some reason people just get swept up believing KFC is fantastic or something. It's like thinking the best place to get a burger is McDonald's.

Wasn't there an episode of South Park about this?

    KFC here is horrible.
It is really really greasy, and any of the branches I have been in have been very dirty.
I do like fried chicken but it should be dry and crispy, not soggy and limp.
Also, their idea of a large portion of fries is very very not-large.

Yeah there was such anticipation before the shop opened you'd think jesus had arrived again.
I went twice ever, that was plenty.

There is something disgusting yet strangely appealing to 'a bucket of chicken'.

You know how bad those chickens are treated by KFCs supplier?
http://www.kentuckyfriedcruelty.com/ PETA are all over those guys.

    KFC buckets are very nutritional.

    The food is crap though.

    That is pretty sad.
I have the stuff once in a while when I'm locked. Wolf through a few pieces along with chips and coke but then I feel all sluggish and docile like I've been drugged by some experimental narcotic.

Before we were married our number one thing to do was eat a KFC bucket in bed.

As someone said above KFC is $hiT and I miss it not :D

PETA are a bunch of ridiculous fascists though so I wouldn't consider them being 'all over' anyone to be a mark of badness.

Anyone from Limerick will know The Chicken Hut is where it's at, waaay nicer than KFC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 137 ✭✭IrishCule

Get to Chicken Hut in Limerick and forget about KFC, Hillbillys is also a suitable replacement.

Its always bothered me that KFC never claim to use 100 % chicken. McDonalds and burger king claim 100% beef, and while it may be cow dick and brain etc at least it is beef. What is in that KFC "chicken" is anyone's guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭Lucena

How anyone can have a craving for battery raised chickens dipped in grease, I don't know. Madness!

That's probably down to the fact that it's covered in breadcrumbs/whatever, whereas the beef burgers aren't.

Lived in a town in the UK that had a situation like that video when a KFC opened, it was like the locals had never heard of chicken, despite there being half a dozen places that already did fried chicken in town.
