As sponsors come and go from the pro tour teams who were todays past team names? And whatever happened to the likes of teams from the 80s and 90s such as PDM, Festina, Carerra, La Vie Claire, Peugot

I know Belkin were Rabobank and heard during TDF Movistar were Kelme or maybe Banetso? Also which previous well known teams just disapered?

    PDM became festina. I think

A lot of the other teams disappeared post doping scandals.

Back in the day when Kelly was interviewed about rivals, I always assumed that VanPoppel rode for super cornflakes.

....and I used to think it was a bit odd that a cigarette maker sponsored a cycling team (Gitane) :o

Of the teams you mentioned PDM eventually became Festina. Carerra didn't become anyone they just folded. La Vie Claire (greatest jersey ever!) eventually became Toshiba then folded not long after. Peugeot is a shame as they are the longest running team in the sports history and if I'm not mistaken I think the most successful too. They came apart though in the mid 80's.

Cycling is a hard sport to follow at times with the name changes. Who is who and where are riders going. Again happening this year as Cannondale, previously known as Liquigas, merge with Garmin similar to their previous merge with Cervelo although that wasn't quite a merge in the traditional sense.

To reverse it take Team Saxo who used to be CSC and I'm not sure who before that. Movistar has been covered above.

Another past team in recent memory is HTC Highroad of Renshaw/Cavendish fame who of course well made their name before that with Riis and Ulrich as Team Telekom then T-Mobile

The team that was Peugeot survived until fairly recently. They became Z - Peugeot, then Gan, then Credit Agricole. They folded at the end of 2008 after they were unable to find a new title sponsor.

As others have said, I reckon Movistar is the oldest team in the top flight now, having previously been Caisse d'Epargne, Banesto and Reynolds.

AG2R goes back to the 90s and was previously sponsored by Casino.

Omega Pharma - Quickstep and Lotto - Belisol are unusual in that at least two companies (Omega Pharma and some of its brands and Domo) have sponsored both teams at different points.

Omega Pharma - Quickstep can trace its roots back to the old Mapei team of the 90s. When Mapei started to pull back from cycling, Patrick Lefevre took the Belgian side of the squad and started Domo - Farm Frites, which later became Quickstep.

I think one of the oldest at the moment is Astana. They go back to Liberty Seguros and before them ONCE which is late 80's. As mentioned though Lotto - Insert any name here go way back to either late 70's or very early 80's.

I still have a wordperfect jersey. It's tight as hell on me now. Never knew who they morphed into.
