M1710 GPU Downgrade

I have an old XPS M1710 which has had numerous problems right after the 18 month mark (which would have been circa mid-'08) and i have replaced the motherboard and GPU twice. It's a well known issue with the GeForce Go 7950 GTX. I've left it alone for the last year or so, but i want to get it back working again. I'm not wasting money on another 7950 as the same thing will happen.

So, i'm wondering does anyone know if i can get a lesser powered card that will fit? I Googled it but to no avail. I know the next model, the 8800, is a different fit, so i can't upgrade it, so i'm thinking i might be able to downgrade. Everything else on the laptop is perfect, just that that specific gpu keeps overheating. Is there even an option to install an on-board gpu? I'm not looking to be using it for gaming, but it's a shame to waste such a good laptop, and it was my first laptop and holds sentimental value (along with the €1600 i paid for it back in '07!).

Its seven years old, its not worth the effort. At this point, a low end laptop with a AMD A4-5000 would be slightly better in terms of performance at a fraction of the power. Coupled with a warranty.

Fair enough. Just a shame to not do anything with it. It's still pristine!

This would be the best option for you - no brainer really

Nothing says stolen like a laptop without a charger.
