    Hi,

What does "prognosis is guarded" mean in plain English? My reading is it's a nice way for a surgeon to say that he doesn't think the outcome will be that good.

    Am I being too pessimistic?

It means the out come is uncertain but not likely to be good.

It doesn't mean that. A prognosis is a look in to the future; it can be dire or excellent.

Are you just ignoring the word "guarded" in the OP?
