Advice re purchase of old house with no septic tank!

    Hi all, looking at buying an old house which doesn't have a septic tank. The auctioneer suggested that if I were to buy it that I could "find" the septic tank, as in put one in and let on it was always there. House wasn't inhabited for last fifteen years.

    So two scenarios, 1) Do as Auctioneer suggests
    2) Do it properly and apply for planning permission and install a septic tank legitimately.

    So my question is, is there anyone in the council I could discuss the option of putting a septic tank in place, and the likely type of tank and treatment system and associated costs of putting this system in place prior to buying the property and applying for permission?

    Any advice or outcomes of similar scenarios would be greatly appreciated

    option 1: is against the law and therefore we wont be discussing it here.

    option 2: the council wont be much help, you need a competent engineer to review and advise based on ground conditions. IMO this is the sellers responsibility to apply for planning for septic tank.

    I fully agree with what Bryan said about it being the seller's responsibility.

    I'd also like to add that if it has been uninhabited for fifteen years I think you will need planning permission to move into it anyway. Even if it was in perfect condition with a working effluent treatment system.
