Ford Focus PATS blinking while driving

I have a Ford Focus 2006 1.6. The PATS (passive anti theft system) indicates it's active when the engine is off and the doors are locked to show to a potential thief the car is locked and alarmed.

Recently I've noticed the light starts to rapidly blink after I unlock the car with the passive key (as normal) but before I start the engine. After I start the engine the rapid blinking continues and sometimes turns off. Anyone experienced this before? I can't find anything in the manual. I feel like the alarm is about to go off or something whilst I'm driving.

Has one of the door-locks failed, by any chance?

Hmm now that you mention it, I've had a couple of incidents where the car refused to lock and I had to go around the car opening and closing all the doors until it would eventually lock. Maybe there is a bad sensor in one of the doors or something. Thanks.

When the security is "armed", the computer pulses all the doors and the boot, saying "are you locked?". When one lock is faulty, it answers "No!" and the computer then alerts you that it was unable to secure the vehicle properly, usually by flashing the hazards a half-dozen times and flashing a warning light on the dash. It could be a sensor, frayed wiring or similar, or a stretched/failing cable that's supposed to pull the mechanical part of the lock.

Could be, I'll have to get it checked. I thought it may be something else because if a door is detected as being open or not properly closed, the bottom warning LED lights up and the info panel says what door is open. That didn't happen when the PATS light was blinking.

    Thanks for your insight!

That's an open door. Yes, my oul' yoke will tell you in plain English as well, but a locking mechanism fault is usually a little more subtle. Good luck with it.
