    Hi all,

Hope this post is in the proper place I'm looking to take up golf.
I know I need to buy clubs etc but I'd like to know how to get the right stuff, lessons etc.

I just want to be frugal with my cash and try and enjoy the game as much as possible as quick as possible!

I'm a student based in lucan during the week and in mayo at weekends generally for work!

    Welcome!

You kinda have a couple of approaches.
    1) Get a cheap and cheerful set of clubs (probably get a bag and all the clubs for €250 in Heatons or similar) and go play with your mates
    2) Get a second hand set of good clubs (will get a decent set of 3-5 year old clubs for same price as above) buy a cheap bag and go play with your mates
    3) Same as 2 but spend money on lessons and going to the range to work on your game, you can still play but its not a massive amount of fun when you are brutal, especially if your mates are not
    4) Get a 6/7 iron and some sort of 5wood or rescue from a 2nd hand shop or mate and spend money on lessons.

If you think you are going to take it up seriously and maybe join a club Id go with option 3, if you are a dedicated type of soul Id think about 4 for a couple of months and then extend to 3.

    Good luck!

    Thanks!

I'm kind of thinking 3 really I'm not a fan of buying anything new generally!

Would like some good lessons maybe play a bit up in Dublin and go home surprise people being decent! I'm generally very dedicated I've been thinking of this for a couple of years now. Watching my mates play at the weekends was no fun all summer!

Who would be good for lessons?

    What clubs would you recommend?

    Many thanks

Pick up a 6 iron online for a few quid and book some lessons to get the basics that way if you hate it no biggie.

The middle irons are the easier clubs to hit. Sports direct/heatons sell individual irons reasonably cheap.

Look on Groupon or similar site and you might get lessons on the cheap.

There are some good teaching videos on youtube but nothing beats a bit of one on one

I've spent a bit of time playing like pitch and putt but without any instruction. And at the driving range. I know I enjoy it I'm just sure I'm doing everything wrong!

If you are serious get some lessons immediately, don't start trying by yourself as you will just get used to the wrong thing.
