Tablet for Travel

    I am looking for some advice, Parents are going traveling (AUS/NZ) and looking to buy a tablet. They are looking at the Ipad or Mini.
    Now they have the choice of WIFI Only or for an extra €120 they can get WIFI/3G.
    Just wondering if the WIFI using a hotspot device with Pay as you go Sim from country they are in will be good enough or should they spend the extra and just slot in the Pay as you go sim.

    Or if there are any other solutions out there?
