The station is fighting to compete with kids' growing preference for the internet over TV with a new app aimed solely at children.
The publicly-funded broadcaster is creating a YouTube-style platform called "Bounce" for kids aged 7 to 11. "Bounce" will have its own dedicated team of presenters.

bit of misleading title, some people had a coniption on twitter when they read it, not sure what they were reacting to, the false idea that rte was going to build a rival to youtube, the idea of wall garden app for kids, that the youtube generation are self producers (to a certain degree).

Waste of money

What they need to do is make decent TV & Radio and stop promoting Twitter and wasting money on stupidity.

More than 1/2 the people in Ireland don't even have proper Broadband anyway.

Their output for older children on tv is a joke, Wall to wall repeats

They offer nothing different to Nickelodeon or Disney channels and most programs come from these channels. Would something like the den work now? If I was a child now and had the kids channels on sky/UPC I would watch them and not rte. When the den was on it was the bits in between the programs in studio with the puppets that was worth watching, sometimes more than the programs that were on.

Don't know how the sharing in the app is going to work. Recommendation might work but sharing?
